Giving Tuesday -A Holiday Giving Fundraiser

During Giving Tuesday 2022, I led a digital storytelling campaign that connected empathy with action. Through authentic voices and intentional visuals, we inspired our community to give generously in helping more survivors access healing, safety, and support.

  • Rape Recovery Center - Salt Lake City, Utah

    Role: Outreach & Marketing Coordinator

    Campaign Type: Fundraising + Awareness

Goal: Raise $30,000 to support survivors of sexual assault through trauma-informed therapy, crisis response, and prevention programs.

  • To inspire giving and awareness through authentic storytelling that connected community compassion to survivor healing. We aimed to make the act of giving feel personal, tangible, and healing for donors and for the community.

  • We focused on digital storytelling and transparent communication. Every message and image highlighted real people, real impact, and the quiet strength of those who help survivors rebuild.

Our theme:Your Support Saves Lives.” This guided all creative decisions from visuals to tone to partnerships. We used colors that are consistent with the winter season by doing the night sky and the auroras in the north.

    • Center survivors’ experiences and staff voices in content.

    • Use visuals that evoke warmth, trust, and community care.

    • Extend engagement beyond Giving Tuesday through December.

    • Collaborate across departments to ensure unified, trauma-informed messaging.

  • Digital Storytelling

Short-form TikTok style videos like one of a Mobile Response Team Advocate talking about their role during a hospital response. The raw, unfiltered footage created empathy and authenticity

    Community Voices

Donors and supporters shared heartfelt videos calling on others to give. These testimonials built a sense of shared purpose.

    Visual Transparency

    • $25 provides one therapy session

    • $100 funds safe housing support

    • $500 trains staff in outreach and prevention

    Email & Social Media

Launched a 4-week storytelling email sequence and weekly social posts leading up to Giving Tuesday, then extended through year-end giving.

    Strategic Visibility

Partnered with YESCO to secure a complimentary digital billboard which was displayed on the I-15 highway in the Utah County & Salt Lake City area.

    • $40,000 raised (exceeding goal by 33%).

    • 250,000+ impressions from billboard visibility

    • Record breaking Giving Tuesday for the organization.

    • Growth in volunteer sign-ups and new community partnerships.

    • Collaboration with Internal Rescue Committee to teach prevention courses.

  • The campaign brought new energy and visibility to the Rape Recovery Center’s mission. Community members expressed renewed trust, empathy, and understanding of what survivor-centered care truly means.

  • This campaign reaffirmed that gentle, honest storytelling can create powerful change.

    What worked:

    • Real voices and visuals over video production for social media.

    • Thoughtful partnerships and cross-team collaboration.

    • Transparent messaging about donation impact.

    What could improve:

    • With more staff capacity, I would expand storytelling across video, blog, and influence collaborations to sustain awareness year-round.
